Iannone: “My GP15 tends to slide around”

Iannone: “My GP15 tends to slide around”

Round 9 of the MotoGP™ World Championship will see Iannone line his GP15 up in fourth on the grid.

All of the top three riders were able to drop into the 1’20s with Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) just missing out, setting a  1’21.029 as his fastest him in Q2. Saturday did not start ideally for the Italian, unable to improve his time in FP3 and lucky to scrape through directly into Q2. A soft tyre on his second exit helped Iannone to produce a grid position that puts him in prime position to be in the mix at Turn 1.

Stability is the biggest area in need of improvement for the 25 year old Italian, his bike sliding at maximum lean. It  appears Iannone will attempt to run the harder tyre option which may give him an advantage in the closing stages of the GoPro Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland, though a strong start will be critical.

Andrea Iannone: “We did a good qualifying session, managing to get the best out of the bike and the package we have. It was difficult to obtain more and I am happy for this reason, but I am not very happy about our overall performance. Tomorrow I expect to improve something in race configuration, in order to try and better manage the bike’s sliding because when we are at maximum lean, my GP15 tends to slide around a bit too much. For the race it will be important to make the bike more stable in the corners, seeing as we will use the harder tyre. Here at the Sachsenring it is really important to start well and try and stay in the top positions, so a second row start is not so bad on this track.”
