Lowes fastest overall in Moto2™ practice

Lowes fastest overall in Moto2™ practice

The Speed Up Racing rider triumphs, followed by Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) and Mika Kallio (Italtrans Racing Team).

Lowes lapped the Sachsenring in 1'25.027 to secure his place in the lead in what was a close day in Moto2, with just 0.077 sec separating the top 5 riders.

The Brit rider had a dramatic Free Practice - he crashed out once at turn 1 and nearly suffered a second fall at the same corner towards the end of the session, but he managed to pull off a spectacular save.

Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten) finished 4th, with the fastest local rider of the day award going to Jonas Folger (AGR Team) in fifth place.

Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) placed 6th on the time sheets, just ahead of current championship leader Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport), who was 7th despite being just 0.149 sec off the pace set by Lowes.

Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) finished in 8th place. The Spaniard was keen to test his recovering collarbone over race distance in FP1, going as far as to ignore team orders to enter the pits in order to stay out on track and push himself. He completed 24 laps in the session in total - a respectable shift even for an uninjured rider.

Randy Krummenacher (JIR Moto2) & Thomas Luthi (Derendinger Racing Intewetten) complete the top ten.

Simone Corsi (Athiná Forward Racing) finished in 11th today, despite a strong record at the Sachsenring. He has been on the podium here for the last 2 years running, starting from 2nd in 2013 then from 3rd in 2014.

A crash from Azlan Shah (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) late in the session brought out the red flag as his bike came to rest in the middle of the track, but the session quickly got back under way.

The Moto2 FP3 session is due to to start at 10:55 local time on July 11.
