Marquez: “I decided that it was best not do any more laps'

For the sixth year in a row Marquez will line up from pole at the GoPro Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland, a favourite track of his.

The left hand nature of the Sachsenring reminds Marquez (Repsol Honda) of the flat track riding he loves so much, allowing him to have fun while going fast. Go fast he did, setting a 1’20.336 in Q2 to break his own lap record by half a second and claim the head of the grid as his own. So far Marquez has gone unmatched this weekend, topping every session he has participated in.

Beyond his stunning lap time, Marquez’s race pace looks impressive too as he is able to produce strings of 1’21s while the likes of Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) and Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) are only able to dip into them. This round marks a return to form similar to 2014, when Marquez spent the season dominating. The Honda rider is aware that his rivals will continue to be improving in Warm UP and is not taking anything for granted.

Marc Marquez: “After FP3, I was expecting to set a 1’20.7 or 1’20.6 this afternoon. However, when I saw that I had set a 1’20.3, I decided that it was best to stop and not do any more laps as that's when crashes happen! I am happy with my fast lap, but above all I am pleased with my pace and how I feel on the bike. It seems as if we are gradually getting better with that, but I am aware that tomorrow's race will be a tough 30 laps and that Dani is very strong here, as are Jorge and Valentino, but I feel ready to fight for the victory.”
