Rossi: “The first part went very well with nine podiums'

A much needed break gave Rossi, the championship leader, a chance to recharge and refocus on the task at hand.

Movistar Yamaha MotoGP secured a double podium finish with Valentino Rossi finishing third last year at the Indianapolis GP. Yamaha have classically had a tough time at the infamous Brickyard, the layout and surface historically favoring Honda. Rossi has won just once at the American track, in 2008 when it debuted on the MotoGP™ calendar, 2014 is the only other time Rossi has finished on the podium at Indianapolis. No doubt Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) will put up a fierce fight, the Spaniard having won the Indianapolis round for the last four years and having recently found his form at Sachsenring.

Rossi begins the second half of the season as the title favourite; 13 points clear of teammate Jorge Lorenzo. With nine rounds remaining anything could still happen, one fall from Rossi and Lorenzo immediately gains the ground he lost in Germany. The Italian will be eager to avoid repeating his 2009 performance at Indianapolis where he crashed mid-race, wearing a special donkey helmet at the next round to highlight his mistake.

Valentino Rossi: “I'm ready to start racing again during the second part of the season. I had a few days of rest, I went on holiday with my friends and I also trained. After nine races, this stop was very important so I could recharge myself. Now there are another nine races waiting for us and each of these will be very important for the championship. The first part went very well with nine podiums in nine races and I hope that the second part of this season will go just as well. Some of the tracks we’re going to I really like, I have to be defensive at others. We start with Indianapolis, not one of my favourite circuits but there’s always a great atmosphere here and the circuit is very nice. I'm ready to go!"
