Marquez: “I’m proud to have taken Honda’s 700th victory!”

Marc Marquez continues his dominance on US soil after taking victory at the red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix to claim Honda’s 700th GP win.

Marquez got away from the rest of the field with Lorenzo at the start of the race, and then began to study his compatriot to work out his strengths and weaknesses. He stalked Lorenzo ominously, waiting for the right moment to pounce. With 3 laps to go he slipstreamed Lorenzo down the the straight and made his move into turn 1. Lorenzo had no response, and Marquez went on to take his 7th MotoGP™ race win in America, and third in Indianapolis, by over half a second. This means that Marquez moves above Andrea Iannone into third in the standings, 56-points behind the leader Valentino Rossi with 8 races remaining.

Marc Marquez: “The race went very well, but we were pretty much on the limit. The truth is that Jorge improved a lot during the race, and I didn’t think there would be so many laps in the 1’32s. Even towards the end of the race we did a 1’32.6, which is very fast! We used the strategy of attacking at the end, when there were three laps remaining, and I think it was ideal for taking victory at this circuit. I’m also very proud to have taken Honda’s 700th victory! This is a very special moment for all the team and I dedicate it to all of Honda."
