Rossi: “If you start from behind it will be impossible'

A front row start gives Rossi a chance to fight for the win at Sunday’s bwin Grand Prix České republiky.

At multiple rounds this year Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) has seen himself dramatically handicapped by a poor qualifying performance. For just the second time this year Rossi will start on the front row of the grid, his previous front row came at Assen where he went on to win. His two championship rivals, Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) and Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) start alongside him and no doubt it will be an explosive race.

Saturday has seen Rossi make dramatic progress, on Friday he was down in seventh on combined times. Cooler conditions also helped, the Brno circuit no longer as slippery as during Friday when temperatures raged. Weather will also play a key role in Sunday’s race as hotter conditions may force riders to opt for the harder option tyre. Fortunately Rossi and his team have done work with both tyres.

Valentino Rossi: “I think a first row start is going to be very important because Jorge and Marc will be very fast from the beginning and if you start from behind it will be impossible to stay with them, so I‘m very happy with this result, also because we worked very well with the team. Already this morning we found a good way to proceed, but this afternoon we improved the setting and were able to also have a good pace, and like I said it‘s very important to start from the front row, because it will be a very hard race.”
