Indian governement gives show of support to MotoGP™ deal

The arrival of the World Championship is set to give the motorcycle-mad nation new recognition in the world

MotoGP™ riders are not the only ones who are thrilled about the World Championship’s first Grand Prix in India next year. The Buddh International Circuit is set to make its debut on the calendar in 2023 when it plays host to the Grand Prix of Bharat, bringing the sport to a true economic and cultural powerhouse. But the benefits flow both ways, a point made by the Chief Minister (CM) of the state of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, who has offered the government’s full support to ensure that the arrival of MotoGP™ on the subcontinent will be a rousing success.

As reported by the Times of India, Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta met with CM Yogi and industries minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ last Wednesday, before the exciting news was announced to the world. The CM promised that all possible assistance would be provided and has directed officials to get an update on the status of the venue, which has previously hosted Formula 1, and inform his office as soon as possible.

The Buddh International Circuit is located south of New Delhi and the event will bring MotoGP™ into the heart of the region, making the World Championship more accessible to a huge fanbase and taking it into a key market for the manufacturers in the paddock. For India, the event is set to bring about an increase in GDP, with government estimating employment generation for 30,000 to 50,000 people.

Minister Nandi said MotoGP™ would give India new recognition in the world, remarking, "The law and order in the state has become an example for the world. Out government has managed to win the confidence of investors both in India and abroad. An event like MotoGP™ will give UP (Uttar Pradesh) a chance to expand its economic and tourism potential."
