Marquez: “That's where the difference was…”

Marc Marquez looks back at where the Czech GP was won and lost after he finishes in second, 4.4s behind race winner Lorenzo.

Starting from second on the grid, the reigning MotoGP™ World Champion got away with Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) right at the start, the two riders opening up a 1.5 second gap by the end of the first lap. He was the only man that could keep pace with Lorenzo, but it wasn’t easy.  After 7 laps Marquez started to struggle with grip levels, and decided to focus on securing second instead of pursuing the race win.

Marquez did just that, crossing the line 4.4s behind Jorge Lorenzo and almost six seconds ahead of Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamah MotoGP) in third. Marquez remains third in the championship standings with 159 points, 52 behind Lorenzo and Rossi who are tied at the top.

Marc Marquez: “Today Jorge rode a very good race. We knew we were not far off him, but we were not close enough and we tried to stick with him, at least at the beginning of the race. After six or seven laps I began to lose performance and he was able maintain his pace. That's where the difference was made. We achieved the goal we had for today: to try and open a gap to Valentino and the others from the start so I’m happy about that. When we have difficulties, as we did this weekend, we still have to score points. I think that this second position is good."
