Lorenzo: “The title is still possible”

Lorenzo: “The title is still possible”

During a promotional event in Barcelona, Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo spoke to motogp.com about the San Marino GP.

With 48 hours having passed since the Gran Premio TIM di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini, Jorge Lorenzo reflected on how the first thirteen rounds of the MotoGP™ World Championship have gone.

Fortunately the Spaniard was showing no lasting signs of his crash: “I’m fine. It was an ugly fall. When the bike throws you and it is in the air and then violently falls to the asphalt, you have a 50% chance of getting seriously injured, especially with these prototypes that are so heavy and powerful. I still have some slight pain in my head and hip but nothing serious. For Aragon I’ll be back at 100%”

Lorenzo had been strong in the San Marino GP until the fateful moment, setting a new pole position record in Qualifying and coping well with the conditions: “I was doing a good race and resisting the attacks from Marc and Valentino. Maybe Valentino was faster when the track was starting to dry out, but other than that I was competitive. Too bad for what happened after the second bike change, I didn’t have patience to wait on or two more corners. After that the tyres would have been up to temperature, instead I fell and lost many points.”

Now he sits 23-points behind Valentino Rossi, with just five races remaining in the season each round will be critical. Lorenzo’s strategy is simple: ”The only goal is to win! This does not mean being condemned to win them all, we must not go crazy and win at all costs, but it is important to get in front of Valentino even if Marc is further ahead. There were two wet races, but in the dry I am stronger. If it does not rain again, the title is still possible.”
