Lowes leads the way in Moto2™ FP1

Sam Lowes tops the morning’s FP1 session ahead of Tito Rabat and Thomas Luthi at the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragón.

Speed Up Racing’s Lowes set a 1’53.700 in ideal conditions at MotorLand Aragon, less than half a second off Marc Marquez’s 2011 Pole Record (1’53.296s) as less than a second separated the top 12 riders.

EG 0,0 Marc VDS’s Rabat was 0.129s behind Lowes in second, with Luthi (+0.234s) on the Derendinger Racing Interwetten Kalex completing the provisional front row.

Paginas Amarillas HP40’s Alex Rins (+0.553s) ended the session in fifth, ahead of Hafizh Syahrin (+0.616s) on the Petronas Raceline Malaysia Kalex and Ajo Motorsport’s championship leader Johann Zarco (+0.787s). Zarco could lift the title at Aragon if he scores 7 more points than Rabat, and 10 more than Rins come race day.

Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), Simone Corsi (Forward Racing), Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) and Lorenzo Baldassari (Forward Racing) completed the top ten.

Mika Kallio was in 13th on his debut for the QMMF Racing Team as a replacement for Anthony West, ahead of the man who took his place in the Italtrans Racing Team Edgar Pons in 20th.

There were crashes for wildcard Federico Fuligni (29th) on the Team Ciatti Suter and Dynavolt Intact GP's Sandro Cortese (11th) late on in the session at turn 14, luckily both riders were unhurt.
