Leopard Racing announces Andrea Locatelli will complete their rider line-up for next year’s Moto3™ World Championship.
18-year Andrea Locatelli will ride alongside recently signed Fabio Quartararo and Joan Mir, a successful participant in this year’s Moto3™ Junior World Championship, in Leopard Racing’s Moto3™ team in 2016.
The Alzano born rider from Italy made his debut on the world level at the Italian Grand Prix back in 2013 as a wildcard entry but since the beginning of last year’s championship, Locatelli has been a permanent rider in the llightweight category. His best race finish is seventh position but he also qualified for the front row several times.
Andrea Locatelli: “I’m so proud and grateful for this big opportunity that the Leopard Racing team have given me for the next season. I’m really happy about this agreement so I will be working hard during the winter months but also during the pre-season testing with the team because I need to know how the new technical staff work. For this, I am highly motivated to pay back the team and people in Leopard Racing for believing in me. By the way, I also want to thank Yuri and Robie, my managers, for their hard work during the last month in order to achieve this big chance for me in such a highly professional environment with one the top teams in Moto3 World Championship. Another important fact for me is that I know the top management in Leopard Racing now as I had the opportunity to speak with them personally and I must admit that it was a warm welcome and I like these persons from the very first beginning of our collaboration. They clearly gave me to understand their goals, which match my targets. Of course, I will do my best to repeat as much as possible to them because this is also a big chance for me to make the next steps in career. At least it is also important for me to be part as an Italian rider in this project with the Leopard Natural Power Drink. I look forward to a great season next year.”
Miodrag Kotur (Leopard Racing): "First we are happy to be able to continue our Moto3 project with a three rider line-up which is now complete as we welcome Andrea Locatelli alongside Fabio Quartararo and Joan Mir. With these three riders, we have a well-balanced structure again with two more experienced riders as the likes of Fabio and Andrea, whilst Joan will make his step up to world stage next year. Overall, all three riders are still young but they match very well with our philosophy. We are happy to guide these youngsters to achieve the highest level of our sport. Andrea already gained experience in world motorcycle racing, as 2015 is his second season in the Moto3 series. We have already watched him since a while and can see great potential so we are happy with his approach to our team and we look forward to a great season in 2016.”
