Rins goes quickest in Moto2™ FP3

Rins goes quickest in Moto2™ FP3

Alex Rins continues where he left off on Friday to finish FP3 on top of the timesheets ahead of Sam Lowes and Thomas Luthi.

Paginas Amarillas HP40’s Rins took advantage of the improving conditions at Phillip Island (Track temp. 28˚C) to set the fastest time of the weekend so far, a 1’32.883, just four-tenths off Tito Rabat’s 2014 Pole Record (1’32.470). The Spaniard is the only man to have broken the 1’33 barrier so far to push Speed Up Racing’s Lowes into second by 0.289s.

Lowes spent the entire session on one set of tyres completing 26 laps, after having spent the whole of Friday using just one rear tyre also, and the Brit was the only rider to get within half a second of Rins’ pace. Derendinger Racing Interwetten’s Thomas Luthi (+0.501s) completed the provisional front row.

Ajo Motorsport’s recently crowned Moto2™ World Champion Johann Zarco (+0.605s) struggled with some technical issues during the session and had to settle for fifth.

QMMF Racing Team’s Mika Kallio (+0.624s) was sixth fastest ahead of Lorenzo Baldassarri (Forward Racing), Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) and Luis Salom (Paginas Amarillas HP40) who completed the top ten.

Tito Rabat (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) was forced to pull out of the weekend’s action after a heavy crash in FP2 aggravated the broken radius in his left arm.
