Rins: “I feel strong with the bike”

Rins: “I feel strong with the bike”

For the third time in his fledgling Moto2™ career, Alex Rins will line up on pole position for Sunday’s race.

Both Alex Rins and Sam Lowes (Speed Up Racing) have looked a cut above the rest of the field at the Pramac Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix but it was the Paginas Amarillas HP 40 rider who came out on top in Qualifying. For the first time in Rins’ career he’ll start the Australian GP from pole position and is out to win the race again, having claimed victory in the 2013 Moto3™ race. In his previous three visits to the Phillip Island circuit Rins has only finished off the podium once, when he was fourth during his first race at the track in 2012. Both past form and current race pace suggest that Rins will be in contention for victory at the Australian track, but Sam Lowes is known as a fighter and won’t let the Spaniard have it his own way.

Sunday’s race presents a golden opportunity for Rins to steal second in the Moto2™ World Championship as Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) is forced to miss yet another race through injury. Rins was unable to capitalise on Rabat’s absence in Japan as he struggled to 11th. With 17 points splitting the pair a top two result would move the rookie to second overall with just two rounds remaining. Maverick Viñales, Rins’ predecessor in the Paginas Amarillas HP 40 team, scored victory at Phillip Island in his equally impressive debut Moto2™ season in 2014.

Alex Rins: “I think that for tomorrow we have a really good pace but for sure Sam Lowes and also Axel and Johann all could come with us during the race. The most important thing is that I feel strong with the bike. In the beginning I pushed very hard with the bike in the first ten laps and I had a good pace and I’m happy for that. Thanks to the team and it’s a pleasure for me to make another pole position.”
