Dovizioso: “We will be quicker than in Australia”

Dovizioso: “We will be quicker than in Australia”

The Australian GP was a disaster for Andrea Dovizioso; he’s aiming return to the front in Malaysia and put the bad memories behind him.

All new in 2015, the GP15 has made an incredible debut and has been able to battle inside the top five at a variety of tracks with both Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone, but the Australian GP proved a struggle for ‘Desmo Dovi’. A disappointing 13th place finish rounded off a difficult weekend and the Italian is now looking forward to the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix which takes place at the Sepang International Circuit, one of his favourite tracks. As a new bike, the GP15 has very little experience at most circuit but with winter testing taking place in Sepang, Ducati already have ample data to help with setup.

However, conditions differ quite substantially between testing and late October when the race will take place, the track usually much greasier during the racing. The weather still remains brutal and as always the Malaysian GP will be a test of fitness. In these trying conditions getting bike setting right will be crucial especially as heavy rain showers often limit track time. Dovizioso currently sits seventh in the MotoGP™ World Championship and is aiming to recover sixth from Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) who currently leads him by five points.

Andrea Dovizioso: “For sure at Sepang we will be quicker than in Australia, because the Malaysian circuit is one of my favourites and in the tests in February we immediately went well with the GP15 we had just debuted on-track, and so I am sure we will be competitive. Malaysia always has difficult conditions, with high temperatures and grip, and it won’t be easy to get the right set-up for the race, but I am convinced we will be a lot closer to the front guys. I’m also pleased that we are doing a race immediately after such a disappointing one in Australia, because it’s better for my mood!”
