Kent: “We have to deal with a penalty again”

Kent: “We have to deal with a penalty again”

For the second race in a row Danny Kent is dealt a penalty, pushing him down the grid as he attempts to clinch the title.

Initially Danny Kent has placed his Leopard Racing Honda sixth on the grid, but once again the Brit was hit with a penalty for riding slowly. Kent is placed in a difficult situation, as the fastest rider in the Moto3™ World Championship the rest of the field are hungry for his slipstream and the only way to avoid this is for Kent to slow down, and thus suffer a penalty. Though the situation is unfortunate and frustrating, the championship leader accepts that the rules are in place for a reason. Sunday’s race at the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix will be one of the most important of Kent’s life as he again tries to take the Moto3™ title.

His closest rival, Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) starts on the front row although this may not be as big an advantage as it seems. Moto3™ races are always incredibly close and with contracts on the line in combination with the layout of Sepang, riders look certain to once again be in a large group. Kent’s main aim for the race will be to avoid incident as in Australia, the last few races have seen Oliveira take a large amount out of Kent’s point lead.

Danny Kent: “First I’ve to admit that a second row wouldn’t be too bad, though we have to deal with a penalty again. However, in general it was a frustrating qualifying today. A lot of riders tried to follow me even when I entered the pit lane to try to come away from them all, but my strategy didn’t work out. It’s even more frustrating as Efren, my teammate, seemed like he wouldn’t get away from me as he was always around. So the only thing I can say is that I’m frustrated. But the most important thing is that we’re ready for tomorrow’s race thanks to a fast and consistent pace.”
