Navarro: “I think I made a great lap”

Navarro: “I think I made a great lap”

A sixth front row start in 2015 continues a strong rookie season in the World Championship for Jorge Navarro.

Traffic was again an issue during Moto3™ Qualifying, many riders looking for a tow from the fastest riders at the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix. Jorge Navarro spent much of the session testing various setup options and was unconcerned with the actions of the other riders. When it did come time to pushing for a fast lap, the Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider did not worry about the other riders on track. Despite the traffic he produced a 2’12.700 to secure second on the grid for Sunday’s race.

Navarro is out for his third podium of the year having secured back-to-back top three finishes in Aragon and Japan. Many thought that teammate Fabio Quartararo would be the standout rider of 2015, but Navarro has quietly gone about his work and is now a serious podium threat every round. Only five points split Navarro and Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Ajo) in the Moto3™ World Championship and seventh remains a realistic goal for the end of the season. With Binder starting down in 16th, Sunday offers Navarro a great chance to close the gap.

Jorge Navarro: “The qualifying session was difficult because it was pretty hot and the feeling was not the same at the start as in the morning. I think we did a great job, because we tested different setups for the bike to improve in these conditions and at the end of day we lowered our time from the morning, so I'm very happy. On the final laps, with the traffic on track, I decided to push myself without thinking that they could beat my time, and I think I made a great lap. We are ready for tomorrow."
