Ippolito: “We need to remember the values of our sport”

FIM President Vito Ippolito chatted to motogp.com about the Permanent Bureau meeting with MotoGP™ riders ahead of the Valencia GP.

Following the events that occurred at the Malaysian Grand Prix and further developments over the following week and given the exceptional circumstances, the Permanent Bureau of the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship, comprising of Messrs Vito Ippolito, FIM President, and Carmelo Ezpeleta, Chief Executive Officer of Dorna Sports, summoned all MotoGP™ riders and their respective team managers to address the situation on Thursday. Here is what Vito Ippolito had to say after the meeting:

Vito Ippolito - FIM President: “We were here today, we invited all of the riders with their representatives from the teams, just to send them a message. As everybody knows we had some polemics and controversy in the last weeks that doesn't belong to our sport and from the FIM side we want to remember the real values of our sport. I understand that sometimes the races in our sport address the riders and teams to have a very high level of conflict, but there is a limit for that. We need to remember the values of our sport and we have to also remember the value itself of the championship, how we rule that. I remember to the riders and the teams that we, I mean FIM, Dorna, MSMA and IRTA, we make the rules altogether. We consult all of the concerned parties, we have a common responsibility. If we agree to have these common rules, that means that everybody has to follow these rules.

Of course I remember that on Sunday we have the last race of the year, and we are really interested that everybody follows the rules and the values of our sport. One important thing is also that we have our door open to everybody, in particular to the riders. We have a Grand Prix Safety Commission that they are allowed to come in and share with them their concerns, and to make together the necessary change to improve the championship itself. Well, at the end I think, I hope that everybody understood and I am sure that it will be like that.”
