Oliveira: “We have done what we needed to do”

A second row start for Miguel Oliveira while his title rival struggles outside the top ten.

Throughout the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana times in the Moto3™ World Championship have been incredibly tight, the top 20 frequently within just a second. This proved true even in Qualifying as the top 23 riders were within a single second; Miguel Oliveira was only 0.139s from pole and was down in fourth position. This puts him in prime position to strike in Sunday’s race, to claim the 2015 Moto3™ World Championship the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider needs victory and he needs title rival Danny Kent (Leopard Racing) to finish 15th or lower. Fortunately for Oliveira, Kent will start down in 18th place.

The final race of the year is always decisive, and for the third year running it will decide the Moto3™ title. Oliveira and his team used two thirds of the Qualifying session to focus on setting his bike for worn tyres, breaking away at the Ricardo Tormo circuit almost impossible in the lightweight class and a strong pace at the end will be vital. With a victory the only way to secure the title, Oliveira is focused purely on crossing the line first and is unconcerned about those around him or what Kent does in the race.

Miguel Oliveira: “Today we have done what we needed to do, which was to get onto front two rows of the grid. I would rather be on the front row, but I'm happy because we have done a good job with the tyres we will use in the race and I am confident for tomorrow. There will be riders who will make things difficult because they also want to win, but the strategy is clear: p,ush hard, not make things tricky when overtaking and protect my line. I do not know if I can get away, but I will try to be consistent and push hard. I feel no pressure and have a lot to gain, so I have to believe in myself and go for it."
