Navarro: “I tried to attack”

Navarro: “I tried to attack”

Jorge Navarro narrowly misses out on victory at home in the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana, ending 2015 on a high.

Starting from fifth on the Moto3™ World Championship grid Jorge Navarro made his appearance immediately felt as he attached to the back of the leading riders. The Estrella Galicia 0,0 man made several moves throughout the race but was also pushed back as Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Efren Vazquez (Leopard Racing) took charge of the leading group. Strong closing laps lined up Navarro for a perfect move at the end of the race, but the Spaniard was unable to pass Oliveira who took victory.

Navarro was lucky to avoid the multiple rider crash in the last corner, second place moving the rookie to seventh in the Moto3™ World Championship standings. For 2016 Navarro will remain with the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team on Honda machinery and will be a threat for the title after impressing many on his debut. Teammate Fabio Quartararo was expected to join the World Championship with a bang, but Navarro has outshone him throughout the year. A total of four podiums and six front rows were Navarro’s reward for an incredible 2015.

Jorge Navarro: “I'm very happy, not only with the race but with the weekend. Racing at home is always a motivation but it also gives you a little extra pressure, and I think I handled that well. I knew I had a chance of victory in the race; I was very comfortable riding in the front group. On the last laps I tried to attack and I saw that Miguel Oliveira also wanted to be in the lead, so I decided to go for it on the last corner. In the last corner I was always making it in second corner but to rev harder I needed first. When I shifted to first the bike slides a little bit more than usual and I couldn’t overtake Miguel. Second place is a very good result and I cannot wait to start working for next year."
