Lowes: “I’ve been working a lot with race tyres”

As other riders pushed for a faster lap, Sam Lowes focused on race setting during a private two day Valencia test.

The 2016 season has already begun for many riders including Sam Lowes, who had two day test at the Valencia circuit with his new Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 squad. After learning the various differences of his new Kalex Moto2™ machine in Jerez, Lowes and his new crew set about finding a solid setting for races and did 233 laps over the two days of testing. A time of 1’35.105 saw the Brit as the fifth fastest rider of the test, a considerable achievement given his different focus to the majority of the field.

Another major area of testing was with suspension; variations to the front and rear shock gave positive results. Already Lowes was able to improve his times from the Valencia GP, having only been on the Kalex for a mere four days. Lowes and his new team now head for much needed time off before they return to action in February.

Sam Lowes: “I’m really happy because during these two days I’ve been working a lot with race tyres, while many other riders took more advantage of the softer tyres. I’ve been much faster than the best lap that I got during the Grand Prix, just over a week ago, so I’m really confident going into the winter break! I love the bike and the team and I’m happy with the work we have done so far: I’m so confident that I would like the Qatar Grand Prix was scheduled for next week!”
