Baz: “I feel more comfortable than ever”

Baz: “I feel more comfortable than ever”

Having not left the pits on Wednesday, Loris Baz had his first chance to try a new seat and footrests.

With only one GP14.2 in Phillip Island, Avintia Racing’s Loris Baz was cautious to leave the pits on Wednesday during the rain as a crash could have spelled disaster for the test as a whole. As such Thursday was his first chance to test the new custom made seat unit and repositioned footrests made for him. It took several laps for the correct position to be found, but once it was Baz felt he had never been more comfortable on a race bike. A time of 1’30.142 saw Baz end the day just 0.142s outside the top ten and a little over a second from the top spot. Overall it was a positive ‘first’ day of testing for the Frenchman and his team in Australia.

Loris Baz: “The day started with rain again but finally the sun came out and we were able to take to the track when it dried. Today we worked mainly on my position on the bike with the new seat and new footrests. The truth it that it has taken a lot of track time but we’ve made a big step forward with this. The team did a great job and I feel more comfortable than ever on a motorbike. All day long I did not push to find a time, then when I did I suffered a broken exhaust and I thought today I would not be able to put in a good lap. At the end I was able to go out again with a new tyre behind Rossi and this left me with a good lap time. I need to make my own time, I need a little more confidence in cornering. But I improved my time from last year and that’s always positive."
