Barbera: “My war will be between fifth and tenth”

Barbera: “My war will be between fifth and tenth”

An incredible finish to the Phillip Island test for Hector Barbera who ends as top Ducati, beating the factory riders.

In both Sepang and Phillip Island, 2015 Open Class Champion Hector Barbera has been able to get amongst the top factory riders and often beat the Ducati Team itself. This is an impressive achievement for any satellite rider, especially for the Spaniard as he is on the GP14.2, a Ducati two generations older than the model currently used by Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso in the factory squad. Of course, being on an older model of bike means Barbera and his Avintia Racing team have several seasons of data to look back upon and therefore have a better understanding of what the bike is capable of and what changes to various settings will yield.

Despite setting the fifth fastest time of the test, almost half a second faster than Iannone, Barbera remains realistic and knows that a fifth place finish in a race would be a great achievement. Overall the testing period has been productive and both Barbera and Avintia Racing are eagerly awaiting the Qatar test. With the first race of the season taking place just a handful of days later at the same track, Barbera is hopeful of finding a strong setting to use for the race and continuing to surprise the established order.

Hector Barbera: “Another test finish and we’ve ended up very happy! At noon I thought we were not going to go back out because it started to rain, but in the end we came out again and I’m happy because I’ve done a lot of laps in the 1’29s and I managed to improve a little bit to a 1’29.3, almost a second faster than the race last year. Also to be inside the top five throughout the day gives you a lot of motivation. The team worked very well, as always, and again I thank them all for giving 110%. We are in great shape and we have to take advantage of all the information that we have taken here, it’s very useful. We are already thinking about the next test because it will be very important as the first race is in Qatar too. The preseason has been very good, but we must remain realistic. I do no want to put any pressure on myself, my war will be between fifth and tenth, anything more would be a gift.”
