A frustrating day at the Qatar Test for Dani Pedrosa who attempts to remain positive after leading the Honda charge in seventh.
The second evening of pre-season testing came to an end in Qatar with Dani Pedrosa as the top Honda mounted rider in a disappointing seventh and 0.421s back on Maverick Viñales’ (Team Suzuki Ecstar) fastest time. During the session the Repsol Honda man tried a variety of setting changes to improve his pace, able to take gradual steps throughout the night. A run of 11 consecutive laps saw Pedrosa able to maintain a steady flow of 1’57s, but this was still a significant distant off the pace of the best riders.
Thursday also saw Pedrosa fit himsRepsol Honda Team RC213V with aerodynamic winglets, Honda the latest manufacturer to join the trend. There is still a long way to go with their development as this was just a first prototype, but with the top 12 MotoGP™ riders within a second of each other even the smallest advantage may help come race day. Friday will be the last chance teams and riders have to prepare for the Qatar test without the pressure and limited time of a race weekend.
Dani Pedrosa: “We have improved a lot compared to yesterday even if I found it a little hard to get back on the pace at the beginning. Later on I was able to do almost a full race simulation and was able to gain experience with the electronics and tyres. At the end we tried to improve our feeling, which is not as good as we would like, but we must be positive and improve step by step. We tested the winglets for the first time and they certainly change the feeling we have but the first contact went well. There are some positives and some negative things, but it was only the first prototype and I guess we'll have to change some things to improve the aerodynamics. Let's see if tomorrow, on the last day of testing, we can take a small step forward in order to better understand where we can be in the opening race."
