Germany’s Jonas Folger lines up in pole position for the first Moto2™ World Championship round of 2016.
2015 saw Jonas Folger take his first victory in the intermediate class when he won the Qatar GP. Saturday in 206 saw the Dynavolt Intact GP rider continue his fine form at the circuit as he set a 1’59.0952 to claim pole position and set a new pole record for the Moto2™ class in Qatar. Since joining the Dynavolt Intact GP team at the end of 2015, Folger has enjoyed every moment working together and has found the consistency he previously lacked. The 2015 season saw Folger win twice with two additional podiums but otherwise rarely finish inside the top five.
Although Folger is in just his first race weekend with the Dynavolt Intact GP team, he was still able to go 0.6s faster than Sandro Cortese who enters his fourth year with Dynavolt Intact GP in the Moto2™ class. Despite being confident for the race, Folger is well aware it will be a difficult battle especially with Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) who was only 0.072s back in Qualifying.
Jonas Folger: “Yes I am very happy so far about the weekend. We were constant, which is really important. I really enjoy working with my new team and the new bike. We can see the results are always there and we’re very confident and looking forward to it. Maybe not easy for sure, Lowes and Tom are rally fast and Johann of course. There are a lot of people on track who will be able to fight with me and they will fight with me so it won’t be easy but I’m looking forward to it. We have the bike to win tomorrow.”
