Picking up a point on his MotoGP™ debut provides Tito Rabat with a base to work, but the distance from the leaders leaves much to be desired
The first round of the 2016 MotoGP™ World Championship was all about gaining experience for Tito Rabat and gain experience he did. Testing provides a good guide for a race weekend and allows riders and teams to experiment more than they usually would, but nothing truly compares to a MotoGP™ race. Ending his first ever premier class race in 15th left Rabat satisfied, but ending almost 55 seconds behind the race winner did not. It was a lonely race for Rabat, 13 seconds behind his teammate who was 14th.
From here Rabat’s aim is to close the gap to the leaders and work on remaining inside the top 15 at each and every round. With a race under his belt, Rabat will now know what to expect and can work with his Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS to set the bike up better for race distance.
Tito Rabat: “It wasn’t an easy race but to finish inside the points gives us something to build on for the early part of the season. I’ve got to say a huge thanks to my crew because they have worked so hard in these last days to improve my confidence with the bike. The gap to the winner is bigger than we expected but this is all part of the learning process in what is the top class in the world. We gained a lot of experience and information here and I have a much better understanding of what I need to be faster. I will keep pushing with the same effort as always. Nobody said it was going to be easy but it is harder than I thought. We are here to learn and improve and I have no doubt I will do it.”
