Espargaro: “The technical package we have is excellent”

With a disappointing Qatar GP behind him, Aleix Espargaro aims to deliver on the full potential of himself and the GSX-RR in Argentina.

The Gran Premio Motul de la República Argentina marks the start of back-to-back races for the MotoGP™ World Championship and an important period for Aleix Espargaro. During testing and the first round of the year, the Team Suzuki Ecstar rider struggled to improve his feeling on the bike and was only able to change his fortunes with a last minute setting alteration. These changes allowed him to race from 15th on the grid to 11th in the race, but 11th is not where Espargaro nor his team want to be. Top six finishes at each race remain the goal for Suzuki and Espargaro and they’re hopeful of beginning a rejuvenated challenge in Argentina.

Back in 2015, Aleix Espargaro secured a stunning front row start at the Argentina GP for Suzuki, their first since returning, when he qualified in second. However, this was back when Suzuki still had access to a softer tyre but the 2016 rules give all bikes and riders the exact same options. Qualifying is tighter than ever and so is the racing, it won’t be easy for Aleix Espargaro on Sunday in Argentina as a huge number of riders and teams now have the potential to crack the top six. Hard work will pay dividends, with no testing data to rely on it will be a race against the clock for Espargaro to adapt his GSX-RR to the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit.

Aleix Espargaro: “After the bad weekend in Qatar I can’t wait to get back with my team and start working on my machine again. We have been struggling to find a good set-up, we made so many changes in Qatar, but after the race we may have now found a good direction so I am curious to try it as soon as possible. The technical package we have is excellent; therefore I am confident I can improve a great deal. We are all working hard, so Argentina will be a good opportunity to show this, I hope.”
