Having wanted more from the first round in Qatar, Maverick Viñales ventures down to Argentina aiming to improve his pace.
Many had expected a lot from Maverick Viñales in Qatar, especially after he put his Team Suzuki Ecstar machine on the front row in Qualifying. Unfortunately the young rider didn’t quite have the pace to stick with the top five and was only able to muster a sixth place finish. In 2015, his rookie year in the championship, a sixth place finish in a race would have been great but now both Viñales and Suzuki want more. With a race under their belts and more data, the combination is confident of improving their pace and making the most of round two in Argentina.
The Gran Premio Motul de la República Argentina will also be the first race of the new Michelin – Magneti Marelli era where riders have not had a test at the circuit before the race. 2015’s data will also be almost useless as not only have the tyres and electronics changed, but the GSX-RR itself has also undergone a number of changes and upgrades.
Maverick Viñales: “Although it will be a long trip, I’m happy to go to Argentina and immediately get back on my GSX-RR. Since the winter we have made really positive steps forward, the machine has improved a lot; and I feel very comfortable. The result in the Qatar Qualifying is proof of our competitiveness, but the final result in the race left me a bitter taste, as it could have been better. I’m eager to start working with my team again, we still have so many things to test and to verify; and the room for improvement is there to make some more steps forward.”
