For the second race in a row Stefan Bradl secures a top ten finish for Aprilia as he pushes development ahead with a safe ride in America.
The start of the 2016 MotoGP™ World Championship has been all about gathering data for Aprilia Racing Team Gresini, but in the process they have managed to take some of their best ever results. At the head of their charge has been Stefan Bradl, the German taking successive top ten finishes in Argentina and America. Bradl was able to benefit from several crashes but also produced a solid race in his own right as he kept a steady pace and avoided risks. Tenth place saw him cross the line ahead of a number of very experienced riders on podium challenging machinery. Aprilia are not only pleased with Bradl’s results, but also the great data he has been able to gather.
Significant progress was made in Austin with the electronics on the RS-GP but work still needs to be done to improve the chassis and the engine. Fortunately Mike Di Meglio and the test team will resume their testing in Europe to assist the GP team. Starts are also an area which Bradl specifically is hoping to improve in coming rounds, losing several positions in both Argentina and Austin as he dropped the clutch. Everything looks positive for the future of Aprilia in the World Championship as they edge closer to leaving testing mode.
Stefan Bradl: “A great result for us. I was quite competitive throughout the weekend. We made great progress, especially with the electronics. I am pleased because we continue to test and improve with every session. We are moving in the right direction. The team did a great job. Before the race I was very relaxed because I knew that I had a good pace. I lost a few positions at the start, just like in Argentina. I still don't have quite the right feeling releasing the clutch and, especially here with the first turn on an uphill, missing that initial launch becomes a problem. In the turns the RS-GP really performed well. We are still lacking something in terms of power, but I'm confident because the guys at Aprilia ensured me that important updates are on the way.”
