Luck has so far been a cruel mistress to Yonny Hernandez who has suffered a number of technical problems.
With only one race finish in the last three races, Yonny Hernandez is simply looking for an issue free weekend at the Gran Premio Red Bull de España. Technical problems have plagued his Ducati throughout the season, ending sessions and races early. Hernandez is a rider who has always shown flashes of brilliance, especially over a single lap in Qualifying. A strong performance in Qualifying could give him and his crew a much needed boost in confidence after the tricky start to 2016. Jerez is a circuit where the Colombian has had success in the past, finishing tenth there in 2015 on a bike very similar to his 2016 Aspar Team MotoGP Ducati. Not only has he gone well in the past there, Hernandez and all the Ducati riders ran a test there in November. This should at least give Hernandez and his team a hint as to what direction to follow over the course of the weekend.
Yonny Hernandez: “I am excited to return to Europe. Jerez is a circuit I know well from many years racing there and I like it a lot so I just hope we can have better luck than we have had so far and be fighting for the top ten. We will be working hard from the first run to find a base setting that allows the bike to be competitive. We have seen in the races so far we have the pace to be fighting mid-pack but a variety of setbacks have held us up in the end. I managed to finish tenth last year and I hope I can fight for a similar result on Sunday.”
