Binder: “That's two in a row!”

Momentum is on Brad Binder’s side as the South African takes back-to-back victories with a skillful ride in France.

Just ahead of the Moto3™ World Championship race, Brad Binder’s Red Bull KTM Ajo team performed extensive work on his KTM Moto3™ machine after several technical issues throughout the weekend. Starting from second on the grid, the South African had just his formation and warm up laps to assess the condition of the bike. His race got off to a solid start and he spent the majority of the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France battling with Romano Fenati (Sky Racing Team VR46) for the lead. They weren’t alone as the Estrella Galicia 0,0 pair of Aron Canet and Jorge Navarro were just behind. Despite constant pressure Binder kept cool and began the final lap in first.

Binder needed to protect his line at every corner, Fenati frantically looking for a way past. A perfect final lap allowed Binder to hold off the Italian and take his second Grand Prix victory in as many races and open up his championship lead. 102 points see the South African 24 clear of his closest rival Jorge Navarro, almost an entire race win worth of points. It appears his win in Jerez has opened the floodgates as Binder's championship challenge continues to gain momentum.

Brad Binder: “Today has been a very good day for me; I am very happy to have got another win. That's two in a row, as well as placing on the podium at every race so far this year, which is fantastic. I enjoyed the victory today more than the first one, because I didn't really take in what happened at Jerez until two days later. I tried to pull away, but I saw that today that would not be possible. I knew that if I pushed really hard on the last lap, I could brake a little harder and close the lines well enough to not give anyone a chance of passing me.

When I overtook Fenati, I set up my exit from the corner before the straight. I saw the opportunity to pass, and I took advantage of it. My intention was to overtake on the main straight, but when I saw the opportunity I closed the door and got this second victory."
