Viñales: “I can still feel the emotions of 10 days ago'

Still buzzing from his first MotoGP™ podium, Maverick Viñales arrives in Mugello floating on cloud nine and with confidence high.

A brilliant ride in France saw Maverick Viñales take a safe, but well deserved, third position, his first MotoGP™ World Championship podium and Suzuki’s first since 2008. It was a dream come true for Viñales who had spent a majority of the weekend in France struggling to find a suitable setup. Viñales will be hoping to carry his positive feeling to Mugello and improve on his respectable seventh place finish from 2015. Each weekend has seen Viñales and the Suzuki GSX-RR grow stronger and stronger, but Mugello presents the biggest challenge to date. Famous for the 1.141km long straight, the Tuscan track also boasts a mixture of slow and fast corners, requiring a bike that can handle almost every type of corner there is. The potential is certainly there within the bike and Viñales, all they need is the right setup. Starting the weekend well has become even more important in the MotoGP™ class in 2016. With 49 World Championship points, Viñales in just four points behind Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) in the standings and could see himself move to fourth overall with a strong performance on Sunday.

Maverick Viñales: “I can still feel the emotions of 10 days ago in France, the first podium both for me and Suzuki was unbelievable and gave me even more motivation. The weekend hadn’t been easy at all, we struggled to find a good balance and efficiency, but finally with my crew, we found a new set-up for Sunday that allowed me to find some more confidence. It’s a good feeling, we keep on progressing day after day and this is a good reassurance. Of course we still need to work hard, we have so much potential to be exploited and we must stay focused. Mugello is a very nice track, so fast and technical, it should suit our characteristics. We have seen that by working hard we can fight and be close to the top; and this is still our objective.”
