Dovizioso: “I was forced to ride in an unnatural position”

Dovizioso: “I was forced to ride in an unnatural position”

Neck issues force Andrea Dovizioso to adjust his riding position, his lap times suffering as a result.

While Andrea Iannone played a staring role on Friday, Andrea Dovizioso had a difficult day as health issues saw him struggle. Free Practice 1 was hit with wet weather, Dovizioso remaining in the pit box to try and save his neck which was incredibly sore as soon as he put his helmet on. Conditions improved in the afternoon and the Italian went out on track to asses his condition, sadly the pain was severe and Dovizioso’s riding suffered as result. The Italian ended the day down in 13th position, 1.120s slower than Iannone who topped the session, pain preventing him from turning his head to the left. Physiotherapy and rest await the Romagna-born rider as he tries to salvage a result from the Gran Premio d'Italia TIM, his run of bad luck seemingly endless.

Andrea Dovizioso: “Unfortunately I had a problem with my neck that prevented me from moving my head back so I was forced to ride in an unnatural position on the bike. We did everything possible to solve the problem with my physiotherapist and the Clinica Mobile and I thank them for that, but in any case I was hampered by this problem. The track conditions are a bit different to the test a few weeks ago, and so we will have to work well to adapt to the ones here now.”
