Iannone: “Tomorrow we still have to improve some aspects'

Andrea Iannone proved his 2015 results were no fluke as he led the way on Friday at the glorious Gran Premio d'Italia TIM.

Friday began with uncharacteristic rain at the Mugello circuit, many MotoGP™ World Championship riders taking the bad weather of Free Practice 1 as a chance to assess the new intermediate tyres. Andrea Iannone was one of just 14 riders to set a time in the first session, ending ninth with a 1’59.808. Fortunately conditions improved for the second session and he went over 12 seconds faster, concluding the day with a 1’47.696. This strong time put him 0.461s ahead of Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) in second and half a second clear of the rest of the field. The Ducati Team rider also ended Friday with the fastest top speed of the day, hitting 345.4 km/h down the straight. Ducati’s home round is certainly off to a near perfect start thanks to ‘The Maniac’. Can he make it back-to-back pole positions in Mugello on Saturday?

Andrea Iannone: “I’m happy because here in Mugello we run at home and it is a very important race for us and therefore we must be able to make the most of our potential. The afternoon session began a little hard for us because the track did not have as much rubber down as the test we did here before Le Mans. We have a little less grip in the rear and especially at the start the feeling was not so good. But I managed to find a good feeling and to push hard. In the end it was a very positive day, even if tomorrow we still have to improve some aspects, but we already know what they are.”
