Morbidelli on Pasini duel: "I raced as I always do"

Italian vs Italian, with the Championship leader taking a stunning win

Told ahead of lights out to think of the Championship and race for points, Franco Morbidelli (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) in fact turned it up a notch and hit full attack mode in the Aragon GP - dueling with compatriot Mattia Pasini (Italtrans Racing Team) until the two crossed the line only a tenth apart. Morbidelli had got away in the lead before being hunted down, and said he had a decision to make between fighting and riding for the title, choosing the former and the win tasting all the sweeter for it.

Franco Morbidelli, P1: “Nothing changed with my approach, I raced as I always do, giving the maximum and this is what came out. I tried to push at the beginning and open a gap but then Pasini was closing fast and I had a decision to make. Stay calm and ride for the championship or fight. I kept fighting and went for the win so this victory gives me a lot of satisfaction.”
