Spain reaches 600 Grand Prix victories

Martin's Moto3™ Championship clinching victory at Sepang seals another milestone for Spanish motorcycle racing

The success of Spanish Grand Prix motorcycle racing continues to grow as the nation has now racked up 600 victories, with Jorge Martin (Del Conca Gresini Moto3) claiming victory at the Shell Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix to set a new milestone, with Italy (802) the only other country to have claimed more wins than Spain.

In total, 43 Spanish riders have stood on the top step of the podium at least once across the 50cc, 80cc, 125cc, 250cc, 350cc, 500cc, Moto3™, Moto2™ and MotoGP™ classes.

The riders who have contributed most to the 600 victories include some of the best riders we’ve seen grace the motorcycle racing world: MotoGP™ Legend Angel Nieto has achieved the most with 90 wins (62x 125cc, 1x 80cc, 27x 50cc), seven-time World Champion Marc Marquez has added 69 (43x MotoGP™, 16x 250cc, 10x 125cc), with Jorge Lorenzo currently on 68 wins in total (47x MotoGP™, 17x 250cc, 4x 125cc), while Dani Pedrosa sits on 54 (31x MotoGP™, 15x 250cc, 8x 125cc).

Others include: Jorge Martinez Aspar (37 - 15 x 125cc, 22 x 80cc), Maverick Viñales (21 – 5x MotoGP™, 4 x Moto2™, 4x 125cc , 8x Moto3™), Alex Criville (20 - 15x 500cc, 5x 125cc), Ricardo Tormo (19 - 4x 125cc, 15x 50cc), Toni Elias (17 - 1x MotoGP™, 7x Moto2™, 7x 250cc, 2x 125cc), Alvaro Bautista (16 - 8x 250cc, 8x 125cc) and Nico Terol (16 - 13x 125cc, 3x Moto2™).

With Marquez’ achievements seemingly limitless and the likes of Jorge Martin rising through the ranks - among many other Spanish prospects - the future remains bright for Spain to continue to be a dominating nation in Grand Prix motorcycle racing.
