MotoE™: pushing forward for sustainability

FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup on track in Barcelona on 2021 World Environment Day

Round 3 of the 2021 FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup coincides with World Environment Day in 2021, and the Cup will be on track showcasing a wide range of green energy solutions, innovative technology and sustainable materials.

Power and emissions

The Energica Ego Corsa machinery raced in the Cup produces zero emissions and the motorcycles are also charged sustainably. The JuiceRoll Race Edition from Enel X, the Official Smart Charging Partner of the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup, is a new charging infrastructure that has been specifically designed and developed for MotoE™.

Thanks to its embedded storage system, it requires limited power from the grid and can fast charge all the Energica Ego Corsa MotoE™ machines when needed.

The system has also been connected to the electrical grid of the race tracks at every venue; removing the need for generators. Additional energy can also be harnessed through sixty 3Sun bifacial solar panels (of 120m² in area), which are mounted in the charging area. These solar panels can produce enough energy to power as many as six Energica Ego Corsa bikes through the entire weekend and even in bad weather, a minimum of three bikes.

Tyres

Thanks to official MotoE™ tyre supplier Michelin®, tyres are another facet of MotoE™ focused on increased and ever-increasing sustainability, including recycled and bio-sourced materials. The front tyres are composed of 33% sustainable resources and the rear tyres 40%, including materials such as lemon and orange peel, pine resin, sunflower oil, worn car and truck tyres, and scrap steel. With incredible feedback from the riders, the tyres have proven a perfect intersection between sustainability and performance.

Tune in to watch MotoE™ race Barcelona at 16:00 (GMT +2) on Sunday, the day after World Environment Day.
