Raul Fernandez (Sama Qatar Angel Nieto Team) went just four tenths off the all-time Sachsenring lap record in Moto3™ FP1 at the HJC Helmets Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland, the Spaniard’s 1:26.591 was 0.192 quicker than Catalan GP winner Marcos Ramirez (Leopard Racing) as Assen podium finisher Jakub Kornfeil (Redox PrüstelGP) completed the top three.

It was a cloudy start to Friday morning for the lightweight class and it looked like John McPhee’s (Petronas Sprinta Racing) early time was going to be enough to top the session. The Scotsman sat less than a tenth clear of Fernandez until the riders suddenly went over a second quicker with just three minutes remaining. McPhee was bumped down to fifth but managed to improve his time to end FP1 in fourth, with Assen winner Tony Arbolino (VNE Snipers) completing a top five split by 0.503.
Gabriel Rodrigo (Kömmerling Gresini Moto3) and Ramirez were early crashers in the session at Turn 13 and Turn 3 respectively – riders ok.
The lightweight class will be back out for FP2 at 13:15 local time (GMT+2).
