Ducatis 1-2 in FP3, Marquez out of top 10

Dovizioso leads Lorenzo ahead of qualifying, as Marquez crashes and misses out on automatic Q2 place

Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) left it late to set the fastest time of the weekend at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, his 1:38.923 was 0.007 seconds faster than teammate Jorge Lorenzo’s time from FP2 – the two Ducatis topping the combined timesheets ahead of qualifying.

A major talking point was Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) missing out on an automatic Q2 spot for the first time since Mugello 2015. The Championship leader crashed late on in the session at Turn 10 while on a flying lap, which proved to be very costly, with Marquez being pushed outside the top ten by the time the checkered flag was waved.

Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) had no such problems, the Spaniard third fastest heading into qualifying, with Andrea Iannone’s (Team Suzuki Ecstar) FP2 time good enough to keep him fourth on the combined timesheets. Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda Castrol) crashed at Turn 2 midway through FP3, however the British rider rounds out the top five after a solid late run.

Franco Morbidelli (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) crashed at Turn 1, his third fall of the weekend – rider ok.

Can Marquez get himself into Q2 and fight for pole position? Tune in and watch qualifying unfold on VideoPass at 14:10 to find out if he can.
