Repsol Honda extend their advantage at the top of the team championship

The Repsol Honda team have consolidated their lead at the top of the World MotoGP Team Championship after Sunday´s Gran Premio Marlboro de Espana in Jerez. Valentino Rossi´s victory, together with the third place of Tohru Ukawa amassed 41 points for the Japanese factory which extended their lead at the top by a further 11 points. The team have now taken 5 out of the 6 podium finishes available to them so far this season, following two wins and a second place for World Champion Rossi, and one win and a third place finish for Ukawa.

In second place, but some 54 points back of Repsol Honda, is the West Honda Pons outfit, who secured their biggest points haul of the season in Jerez after the fourth place finish of Loris Capirossi, and Alex Barros´ fifth. The Fortuna Gresini set-up moved into third after the excellent second placed finish of Daijiro Kato, and have replaced the Marlboro Yamaha team who drop down to fourth after having experienced their first pointless Grand Prix of the year in Jerez, the only team to do so on Sunday.

The Telefonica Movistar Suzuki set-up finally opened their account for the season, scoring fifteen points from the eighth place of Kenny Roberts, and the ninth of team-mate Sete Gibernau. The Garry Taylor fronted outfit now find themselves in ninth place in the table, ahead of Pramac Honda Racing, MS Aprilia Racing and the Kanemoto Racing team who are currently propping up the rest with just the nine points Jurgen vd Goorbergh has so far totalled.
