Vincent looking to become first French rider to take 125 title

After taking second place at Jerez, Arnaud Vincent has a healthy 24 point lead in the current World Championship standings going into his home race at Le Mans. If he should go on to take the title he will become the first French rider to win the 125cc Championship. The best performance to date in the class by a French rider was when Guy Bertin finished second in 1980 riding a Motobécane.

Second place at the Spanish Grand Prix also took Vincent past the 500 career points mark and closed down the gap to the top five French riders of all time in terms of career points total. The following table shows the top ten French points scorers:

1. Olivier Jacque –1047 2. Christian Sarron - 933.5 3. Jean-Philippe Ruggia – 899 4. Jean-Francois Baldé – 546 5. Patrick Fernandez – 541 6. Arnaud Vincent – 518 7. Dominique Sarron – 457
