Poggiali secures pole in a session overshadowed by accidents

World Champion Manuel Poggiali claimed pole position in the 125 class after a session full of falls, and which included a 20 minute stoppage as emergency services tried to free Max Sabbatani after he fell and trapped his leg in his bike. The Italian rider suffered a serious fracture of the leg.

Poggiali only moved into pole position with eight minutes of the session remaining. Initially Steve Jenkner managed to maintain the advantage that he took in yesterday´s qualifying. The German was not able to better his time at all though, and Pedrosa and De Angelis, who continued to improve as the session went on, moved ahead to claim second and third respectively. Arnaud Vincent lost his provisional place on the front row after also failing to better his time today. Once he had moved into pole, Poggiali attempted to lower his time further, but suffered mechanical problems which impeded him.

Japanese rider, ´Nobby´Ueda, who took victory in Mugello last year, did not appear in the qualifying session, and will miss tomorrow´s race following an injury that he sustained yesterday.
