Polini working on an engine for Grand Prix bikes

Italian manufacturer of parts for mopeds and motorbikes, Polini, is working on the development of a engine to take part in the 125cc Grand Prix class. The team will take part in the Gran Premio Cinzano D'Italia, with Italian Simone Corsi as the rider. The bike is a Honda, but will be powered by a Polini engine which has been developed throughout the last year.

Polini´s objective is not to produce a bike to compete at the highest level of competition, but to make their engine available to teams who wish to purchase it. The manufacturer´s sporting schedule this year consists of competing in the Italian Championship, and certain rounds of the European Championship.

If the motor is something of hope for the future, the same can be said of rider Corsi who only celebrated his fifteenth birthday on April 24th, and is yet another of the bright young prospects of Italian riding. At the age of seven he began to compete on pocketbikes, and three years later had been crowned Italian champion. Last year he started racing in the 125 Sport Production category halfway through the season, and in his first race he made it on to the podium. By the end of the campaign he had taken the Winter Trophy of the 125RS Cup.
