Alex Crivillé to be honoured at the GP of Catalunya

Former 500cc World Champion, Alex Crivillé, who announced his retirement from the sport this season in Jerez, will receive a further tribute from the MotoGP world on June 16th at the Gran Premi Marlboro de Catalunya. The meeting will mark his second appearance in front of Spanish fans since his decision to bring the curtain down on his riding career on medical grounds.

Crivillé will don his leathers once again after the MotoGP class warm-up has finished at 10.45am and do a lap of honour of the Catalan circuit aboard the Honda NSR500 with which the Japanese factory presented him after he won the half-litre World Championship in 1999. The Spanish rider will then perform another lap half an hour before the elite category race, but this time in an open-top car as he bids a final farewell to his fans.

Crivillé will also be the first rider to have his name introduced into the ´Champion´s Avenue´, a new creation which is situated behind the grandstand on the main straight at the Montmelo circuit. The management of the Catalan venue intend to put World Champions of all nationalities into the avenue from the worlds of both two-wheel and four-wheel racing.
