Max Sabbatani recovering slowly after nightmare crash

Max Sabbatani is making steady progress in his convalescence from the serious injury he sustained at the Gran Premio Cinzani D´Italia last weekend. The Bossini Sterilgarda Racing team rider has been into the operating theatre on three occasions since the accident, and the surgery has proved successful. Initial fears over possible complications caused by a heart problem have now subsided after the injured leg was stabilised. Sabbatani will ungergo a fourth operation tomorrow aimed at preventing any further complications, after which he will be transported to the surgery of Doctor Costa, who runs the World Championship´s ´Mobile Clinic´.

Twenty-seven year-old Sabbatani sustained the horrific injury after falling at the Borgo San Lorenzo curve at the Mugello circuit during qualifying on Saturday. The session was suspended for twenty minutes while emergency services worked to try and free his leg which got trapped in the rear wheel of his Aprilia 125 bike. The Italian rider has not lost feeling in the foot, and can still lightly move it. Neither has he let his spirits drop after receiving numerous calls of support and visits from other World Championship riders.
