Poggiali pips Pedrosa on the line in thrilling 125 battle

Manuel Poggiali took victory in the Gran Premi Marlboro de Catalunya 125 race after overcoming Dani Pedrosa on the final straight to win by a margin of 19 milliseconds. The two riders fought every inch of the way, after the breakaway group of three they were in became two following Ui´s fall nine laps from the end. Pedrosa had led for much of the race, while Poggiali had to come from behind after nearly falling on the second lap.

Behind the lead group, Jenkner was left on his own to claim third, whilst Joan Olive, who began the race lapping in the top three, lost ground towards the end, eventually finishing sixth, behind Sanna and Cecchinello. Jorge Lorenzo, who only celebrated his 15th birthday on May 4th, finished fourteenth and became the youngest rider ever to score points in the World Championship.

Poggiali has consolidated his championship lead, he now has 110 points, while Vincent who came home eleventh, is now 20 points behind the San Marino rider. Pedrosa is in third position with 86 points.
