Porto aiming to bounce back after race to forget in Catalunya

Argentine rider, Sebastian Porto, endured a day of bad fortune on Sunday at the Gran Premi Marlboro de Catalunya. The Petronas Sprinta Yamaha TVK man was forced out of the race in the early stages after mechanical failure, thus bringing to an end his impressive start to the season which had seen him score at every round.

The 23 year-old explained his misfortune, ´On the 3rd lap, I felt a problem with my bike. It was obviously quite serious as it was an engine problem so I decided to return to pit-box. It was very disappointing for me, I had scored in every race this season, and we were on a good run, so for this to come to an end here, after we did quite well in qualifying, was bad news.´ Porto still finds himself in eighth position in the championship standings, but has lost ground on his rivals as he bids to achieve his pre-season target.

´Our main aim is to finish in the top five of the championship. At the beginning of the season, especially after we saw how strong the Aprilias were, we knew it would be difficult. But we have been progressing bit by bit and closing the gap on them, and now the important thing is to reflect that in the championship at the end of the year.´ He went on to add, ´ We are still lacking a bit of power in comparison with the Aprilia bikes, but Yamaha is working hard for us, and we have proved the bike is competitive. I think we have made a lot of progress throughout the season, and I hope to come back well in Assen.´
