Fonsi Nieto proves the most dedicated tester

As well as being the quarter-litre championship leader, Spaniard Fonsi Nieto is also the most dedicated tester in the 250 category. The pupil of Jorge Martinez ´Aspar´ has covered more kilometres in qualifying this season than any other rider in the class.

Fonsi has covered some 2.329 kilometres aboard his Aprilia during the qualifying and practice sessions at the first six Grand Prix of the term, whilst nearest championship rival, Marco Melandri has done 59 kms fewer than Fonsi, and Roberto Rolfo some 50 less. Behind Fonsi, the rider who has covered most distance on the asphalt is Emilio Alzamora with 2.287 kilometres. Strangely enough, the riders who have done the fewest kilometres both belong to the same team, they are David Checa (1.707) and Casey Stoner (1.769). The fact that both Safilo Oxydo team riders each have just one bike available to them goes some way to explaining their relative shortage of track time in qualifying though.
