Dani Pedrosa takes his first career victory in Assen

Dani Pedrosa clinched his first career victory after producing a faultless display in the 125 race at Assen, which he led from start to finish. After getting away perfectly from pole, the young Spaniard quickly opened up a comfortable three second gap between himself and the chasing pack, a lead which he never relinquished.

Behind Pedrosa a fascinating battle developed for the remaining podium places between a group which began to lose riders from the halfway stage. As the race entered the closing stages, it was Cecchinello, Poggiali, Olive, Vincent and Jenkner who were fighting it out, and eventually it was Poggiali and Olive who joined Pedrosa on the podium. Vincent ended up fourth after recovering from a bad start, and Cecchinello and Jenkner followed him home.

The victory took Pedrosa up to second spot in the championship standings behind Poggiali, who now has a lead of 20 points over the Spanish rider.
