Carlos Checa reflects on a good run of results

Looking back over the last few races I have to say that things have gone quite well, even though as a rider only victory is good enough and I am not satisfied with things as they are. I have taken two podiums at tracks where I had never really had success with Marlboro Yamaha before and this is very positive, but in Catalunya I would have liked to have been able to follow Rossi and Ukawa and in Assen it would have been nice to fight with Rossi and Barros.

Our bike has made huge steps over the first half of this season and this has a lot to do with the effort we are putting in to improve our situation. It is obvious that we are not as close to the Honda RC211V as we would like to be, but it is also evident that neither myself or my team race to come third and we will continue to improve at the same rhythm we have done up to now.

At the moment I am the lead rider behind Rossi and Ukawa, with third place in the championship and more podiums than any other competitor. The current situation is tough but I still believe I can fight for victories and, at the moment, this is the most important thing.

I am at my home in the north of England now, resting myself and preparing for two Grands Prix in two weeks at Donington and Sachsenring. I came straight here from Assen on Sunday night to recharge my batteries, so hopefully I will be in perfect conditions to maintain my current form and build on my good run of results.
