Sylvain Guintoli waiting patiently in the wings

Sylvain Guintoli waiting patiently in the wings

Up to now everything is going well for me. I am continuing my learning process as planned and I have had the chance to ride at a lot of circuits. Having also completed the IRTA tests I have covered over 4,000kms since the start of the year.

I have adapted well to the machine and I am up to speed. I like the controls of the YZR500 and the next step for me will be to show my ability in a race. To ride in the World Championship alongside other MotoGP riders is something which excites me a lot. I think it could happen because there are plenty of other riders out there on the two stroke Yamaha. I have spent a lot of time on the bike over the last few months, testing different parts and tyres, and I have adjusted the bike to my own personal settings.

With this in mind I just hope I get the chance to compete this season. Perhaps it is a little premature to talk like that, but the opportunity could arise. Of course I don´t want Olivier (Jacque) or Shinya (Nakano) to get injured, but there are other possibilities. For me, the fact that I am present at all the GPs is another important factor because it is a way of gathering experience and knowing how everything works.

Although I miss the competition, I think I made the right choice. My old team-mate Randy (de Puniet) and I took totally different options. He stayed in 250 and I am happy to see that he is doing well, but I think that MotoGP is the place to be. I could have got good results in 250, but from the first time I rode the 500 I didn´t want anything else. I would prefer to sacrifice a season to prepare myself and to be able to ride in the top category.

At the end of the day I am only 20 years old and I have time to learn and make myself one of the top riders when I finally do make my competitive debut in MotoGP.
